Emma Jeffers, who has just been selected for Ireland for the track Worlds, has taken another big win, just 24 hours after her Liv AlUla Jayco team was denied victory at Giro Mediterraneo in Rosa (2.2) in cruel circumstances.
A dog ran out at the finish of stage 1, taking out Noä Jansen just as she was about to claim victory from a breakaway more than 2½ minutes up the road. She broke ribs and her collarbone. But the team really turned things around today, with the stage win by Jeffers and by snatching the race lead.
"It was another tough stage and girls worked really hard," said Jeffers of her team mates on a stage that saw a number of breakaways get clear and the field split late in the contest.
"We did well to control it all day. Coming to the finish it was super hectic so the girls had to ride really hard. Thankfully we got back to the front of the race with about 700 metres to go.
"I managed to launch a good sprint, so that was one goal. And we also managed to get some seconds for Matilde (Vittillio) for the overall GC, so it was a job well done."

Irish rider Jeffers, who won two stages at Memorial Michela Fanini (2.2) two weeks ago, once again sprinted for victory today, when she was best in the gallop to the line from a reduced peloton after 113km of racing into Cardito-Frattamaggiore.
Italian teenager Irma Siri (Top Girls Fassa Bortolo) was 2nd, with Dutch rider Meike Uiterwijk Winkel (BePink-Imatra-Bongioanni) rounding out the podium.
Jeffers's team mate, Vittillo, was in the winning breakaway yesterday with team mate Jansen and had to settle for 2nd place on the stage after Jansen was taken out by the dog.
That meant Vittillo started today's second stage, of three, in 2nd place overall some six seconds down on stage 1 winner Francesca Hall (Praties Cycling Team).
However, Vittillo was in the front section of the bunch today, on the right side of splits that emerged in the sprint, and takes the race lead as a result. She gained six seconds on Hall, putting her equal on time with the British rider. But she has taken the race lead on countback.
It means after the disaster of yesterday, with Jansen not only being denied a stage win but being forced out of the race, Liv AlUla Jayco took the stage today with Jeffers and the race lead with Vittillo.
