Sam Bennett (Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale) may have today taken his best result so far of Tour de France 2024 but the Irishman was still some way from threatening for victory.

A late bump, by two-time stage winner Biniam Girmay (Intermarché-Wanty), did not help Bennett's cause, and was followed by Girmay galloping to 2nd place.

At the head of affairs, there was no need for a photo finish today as Jasper Philipsen (Alpecin-Deceuninck) proved untouchable in the bunch sprint to the line in Saint-Amand-Montrond.

He was brilliantly led out by his team mate, and world champion, Mathieu van der Poel, and once Philipsen hit the front it was all over; the Belgian rider powering his way to a first win on this year's race.

He took the victory by over a length from Girmay, with Pascal Ackermann (Israel-Premier Tech) 3rd from Wout van Aert (Visma-Lease a Bike), Fernando Gaviria (Movistar Team) and then Bennett in 6th.

Bennett never looked like he was going to compete with the very fastest today, but he may have done better had he not been moved to his left courtesy of an shoulder-elbow from Girmay, who then followed Ackermann and charged through strongly for the runner-up spot.

For Bennett - who is no stranger himself to moving riders out of his way - the bump from Girmay broke his momentum a little. And the ground he was already losing to the likes of Philipsen then opened up.

There was no change in the overall, with Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates) still in yellow, by 33 seconds from Remco Evenepoel (Soudal-QuickStep). Jonas Vingegaard (Visma | Lease a Bike), the defending champion, is 3rd at 1:15.

Tomorrow's stage 11 - some 211km from Évaux-les-Bains to Le Lioran - features a series of late climbs and may be one for Ben Healy (EF Education-EasyPost) to give it a go.
