Aoife O'Brien (Spellman Dublin Port) has taken a very strong win in Belgium, where the 19-year-old was best in Grand Prix Garage Scheerens into Dudzele, Bruges.
O'Brien was best of 87 starters when the event came down to a bunch sprint, in the rain, after 84.5km of racing. She took the win ahead of Alana Castrique (Cofidis Women Team) and Yenthe van Lommel (Cyclingteam Belco-Van Eyck).
"It was a fairly sketchy in the last few kilometres, with a lot of rain, and everyone trying to move up," O'Brien told stickybottle. "I just really focused and made sure I was following good wheels. There was some English girls over at it so I got on their train.
"The road narrowed in the last few hundred metres and I was up in the front few riders and just opened my sprint from there, when I could see a gap. It was a complete shock to be honest I couldn’t believe it when I crossed the line."
