
This video footage, below, captures the moment that Ronan Grimes let it sink in that he was world champion. He was clearly wrecked from his exertions in the MC4 road race but not too shattered to enjoy the moment.
He was already the reigning European TT champion going into these Paracycling Road World Championships in Baie Comeau, Canada, and underlined his form with bronze in the TT at these worlds ahead of today's road race.
During his 81.9km event today, Grimes forged clear in a five-man breakaway which stayed together for a group sprint that decided the destination of the medals; the Irishman winning gold and the rainbow bands.
He wasn't the only one in celebratory mode today as the Katie George Dunlevy and her pilot Eve McCrystal won their road race today. And in the sprint for bronze in the same race, Josephine Healion and her pilot Linda Kelly prevailed to make it a 1-3 for the Irish.
They four Irish women were clearly delighted with their medal-winning rides, as you can see by their reaction in the second video below.
