Impressive Moore and Holland have too much in the tank at Dunsany GP

The main event and supporting A4 race at the Dunsany GP both saw their likely outcomes tipped on their heads late in the day, when one breakaway was caught and another one-man move slipped clear. The reigning Leinster junior road race champion, Sean Moore has taken victory in the main event at the Dunsany GP this afternoon.

The Barrow Wheelers man proved too fast for the rest of the field in the bunch sprint that decided the honours in Co Meath after a long-range breakaway was caught in the closing stages.

A group of nine riders pulled clear on the 17km circuit, with the A3-Junior event racing four loops for a total distance of 68km.

But while the escape looked good to stay away and share the spoils for a long time, they were recaptured in the closing kilometres of the last lap, setting up a bunch sprint.

The impressive Moore proved quickest in the dash to the line, getting the verdict ahead of John Clarke (Navan RC)
and Shane Foley (Carlow RC).

The win should put him in a very strong position towards gaining a place in the Leinster team for the Junior Tour of Ireland in the summer, especially if he can add some more results to his palmares before then.

In the A4 event, the win looked set to be fought out in a bunch sprint until Mark Holland (Orwell Wheelers) took the race in his hands and attacked in the last few kilometres.

He had the legs to match his courage and hung on for a great win despite the bunch breathing down his neck all the way to the line at the end of three laps.

The sprint for runner-up slot from the bunch behind was won by George Devin (Drogheda Wheelers) from Paul Perry (Orwell Wheelers) and Declan Keating (Skane Wheelers).
