Two of the North’s most promising young riders went head to head in the closing charge that settled the Cicli Sport GP A3 race in Loup, Moneymore, Co Tyrone, today.

The showdown was won in impressive style by Craig McAuley (V02 Cycling), with Mark Downey (NRPT-Standard First) just behind in second place.

The junior riders are both in their first year out of the U16 ranks, and while both have been very dominant in the North and indeed nationally for the past couple of seasons, they appear now to have made a seamless transition to senior racing.

In the separate A4 race today, Darren Lynas (West Down) saw off Ryan Reid (Omagh Wheelers) to take victory, while Janine McNally (North Down) won the women’s race and Ian Blayney (North Down) took the masters event.

In the U16 race, fastman Jake Grey of the promoting club East Tyrone got the better of Dion McCarthy, who had travelled all the way from Fermoy. And in the U14 race Ethan Fleville (Clann Eireann) bested team mate Liam Wilson for the win.
