Ian Richardson storms to clear victory in Mickey Palmer Challenge in Mayo

Ian Richardson this morning showed the legs that have made him one of the best testers in the country in the past couple of years when he romped to victory in the Mickey Palmer TT Challenge in Co Mayo.

The UCD CC man was one of 30 riders to brave the wet and cold for the 38km test from Westport to Louisburgh and back again. The riders were lashed with rain that came down hard and sideways in strong crosswinds.

Richardson, who also won the event last year, rocketed down the course in 52:30, some 3:08 faster than Eoin Whelan (Seven Springs) in second place. Chris Troy from Castlebar CC rounded out the podium, a further 1:15 down.

The event was run by Westport Cycling Club and sponsored by Westport Credit Union.
