Horgan takes national crown from McCrystal in Omagh test

Siobhan Horgan showed her class by retaking the national time trial title despite an absence from cycling for a couple of seasons. Above, racing in the colours of her French team three years ago.

Siobhan Horgan of Aquablue has taken the elite women's crown at the National Time Trial Championships in Omagh, Co Tyrone, this evening.

Having taken a break from cycling to focus on duathlon in recent years, Horgan saw off the challenge of Garda CC rider and road international Eve McCrystal who took the silver medal.

The defending champion Caroline Ryan, also of Garda CC, came home in the bronze medal position.

Provisional results suggest Horgan's time of 53:28 for the 37km course was a massive 2:15 faster than McCrystal, with Ryan a further 25 seconds back; or 22:40 down on the winner.

Next was four-time champion Olivia Dillon (Visit Dallas), with Eileen Burns of Ballymena Road Club in 5th and Fran Meehan of Aquablue in 6th.

At the time of writing, those results were provisional.
