Conor Hennebry wins Sean Nolan Meath GP
Having enjoyed some fantastic wins already this season, Conor Hennebry has take another today; this tine at the Meath GP.
The Viner-Caremark-Pactimo rider was best at the end of the Navan Road Club promotion from a two-man breakaway.
He arrived at the finish with Lucan CRC rider Dermot Trulock and got the better of him on the line.
Mark Dowling (Unattached) was best of the rest, from Hennebry’s team mate Ronan McLaughlin.
Matteo Cigala, riding his first race in the colours of Holdsworth, was 5th. Alexis Roche (Cotes d’Armor) finished in 6th place.
With three laps of the course to contend with, the early exchanges failed to split the A1-A2 race.
However, at the end of the opening lap the decisive action began to unfold when a group of eight riders got clear.
Hennebry was there, along with Turlock and Charlie Prendergast (Castlebar CC).
Also present was Cigala, Roche, Dowling, Cathal Purcell (Panduit Carrick Wheelers) and Paul Kennedy (Newcastle West).
John Dorris was happy with his effort; the Epic rider wins the A3 race.
Craig Stephenson, leading, pulled clear of the field all the way to the finish line in the A4 bunch sprint finish.
With the gap back to the peloton never getting comfortable, the men up front had to ride hard to stay away.
At the start of the third lap Prendergast took the initiative, attacking and pulling clear. A winner of the Claremorris GP on Friday evening, he is clearly in great form.
With Prendergast looking strong and the finish approaching, Hennebry and Trulock attacked out of the breakaway after him.
They soon had him caught, making it a very strong three-man group powering for home. However, while they shared the workload the gap to the chasers remained between about 20 and 30 seconds.
With the hammer on to stay away, Prendergast paid for his earlier efforts and lost his place up front.
That left Hennebry and Trulock to contest the finish; Trulock leading it out but his rival proving too strong.
In the A3 race John Doris (Epic MTB) won from a four-man breakaway. He was the clear victor in the final sprint to the line from Cannice McNay (Newcastle West CC).
Next came Gavin Hendley of Lucan CRC, with junior and club mate Liam Hanley in 4th.
The A4 race ended in a bunch sprint; Craig Stephenson (Murphy Surveys Kilcullen) pulling well clear in the gallop for victory.
Next came William (Killackey Nenagh CC), Darragh MacNamara (Park Wheelers) and Gary Donoghue (Bikeworx Celbridge).
