L to R: Third place Downing, winner Thwaites and Ireland’s Hawkins
Ireland’s Peter Hawkins has enjoyed a great result in the UK today, Sunday, taking second in the Tour of the Reservoir British Premier Calendar one-day race and splitting the all-conquering Endura Racing Team on podium.
The IG Sigma Sport Irish rider proved very strong in the finale, having enough to come off the wheel of former Team Sky rider Russell Downing to take a clear second place after Downing’s team mate Scott Thwaites had proven too strong for everybody else.
The 100 mile event in Northumberland saw some pretty savage attacking in the closing stages, with Hawkins right in the thick of it and managing to get off the front after four hours of racing in what would prove to be the winning move.
He then had enough left to take second place after Thwaites benefited for a great lead out from his team mates in the escape, namely Downing and Dean Windsor.
That’s a brilliant result for Hawkins. We’ll have a chat with him tomorrow, Monday, and bring you the full story then.
