Dean Harvey (Trinity Racing) and Elena Wallace (Harps CC) have warmed up for the fast-approaching National Cyclocross Championships by winning the main events at the Christmas Cracker race held in Co Louth today.
Promoted on a wet and muddy day for racing, at McCrystal's Track in Bellurgan, Harvey and Wallace put clear daylight between themselves and their nearest rivals.
With 90 souls turning out for the various races today, many of the youth riders competed against the elites in combined events. They showed their worth riding against the older and more experienced competitors to get up onto the podiums.
Harvey claimed victory in the men's race from one of the men of the season, junior Curtis McKee (Spellman Dublin Port); some 1:46 between them after six laps of racing.
Young Rian McCrystal (Bear Group) got up for a podium finish; the U16 rider 2:42 down on elite national champion Harvey after 45 minutes of racing.

In the women's race, Wallace - who represented Ireland at the recent UCI Cyclocross World Cup in Dublin - ran out the clear winner after five laps of racing, over 45 minutes.

She was 2:26 up on Emer Heverin (All human-VeloRevolution); the U16 the only rider to finish on the same lap as winner Wallace. Aoife Craig, another U16 rider and competing for VC Glendale, was 3rd at one lap.
