Harkness scalps Feeley in Meath, Owens adds to 'Spellman' success

Travis Harkness and Cillian Owens made it a day to remember for Spellman Dublin Port in Co Meath yesterday when they won the main events at the Collins Christle Memorial in scorching conditions.

Harkness, still just 19-years-old, faced a late challenge from Daire Feeley (All human-VeloRevolution), who was looking for two wins in as many days, though the teenager managed to hold off the Rás Tailteann winner and take a great win.

Indeed, Feeley wasn't the only top tier rider Harkness got the better over in the final sprint to the line after the race came down to a bunch sprint after 90km of aggressive riding, with top A1 rider Gareth O'Neill (Athlete Nutrition Coach) rounding out the podium.

The promotion, organised by Navan Road Club in Kilmessan where Feeley won the Maxi Maguire on Saturday night, also featured a 60km A3-A4 race, which was one by Owens.

Like his team mate Travis Harkness, Owens was best in the bunch kick that settled the race and though he was not pushed as a closely on the line, he emerged best in what was a gallop to the line from a large group.

Owens took the honours from James Connolly (Blarney CC), with Fran Brannigan (Cycologist) rounding out the podium. Mia Smith (Brother UK) was leading woman in that A3-A4 event.
