Hannah Barnes (DID Electric) took her second victory of An Post Rás na mBan when she sprinted in to win the stage four circuit race at Ballyalla, Co Clare, yesterday evening.
DID Electrical controlled most of the 10-lap, 40km, stage from the front, chasing any breakaway hopefuls.
Only Lauren Komansky (Ritte Racing) was allowed to get out of the bunch to grab the first prime of the day, just clear from the chasing bunch.
However, in the closing stages in was Team Ireland who went to the front in an effort to boss the action.
Roxane Fournier (Norway Trek) jumped in the final 200 metres, but it was British sprinter and stage favourite Barnes who turned on the speed to claim the win.
French woman Fournier finished once again second to Barnes, in similar fashion to stage 1, with Christina Malling Siggard (Team Rytger) less than a bike length behind in third place.
Race leader Olivia Dillon finished safely in the main bunch to maintain her lead, with her Irish team clearly focussed on the bigger stages and winning the race outright.
Amy Brice made it a great day for DID Electrical by retaining the lead in the county rider competition.
“The county was my main goal going into this race,” she told stickybottle.
“It means a lot to wear the county jersey and it’s well fought for. I’ve got a long way to go before I can claim it and I'm hoping I will be able to hang on to it.”
“The team is working well together, we are doing great. We have been there in all the stages so far and we're excited for the last two stages.”
The Ulsterwoman, who has raced in France and Belgium earlier this year, is thrilled to be so competitive in this year's race.
“It’s brilliant to have great riders like former Canadian champion Véronique Fortin and Hannah Barnes on the team. I’m still relatively new to the sport compared to them so it’s great to learn from them. They are great people and it’s a good laugh as well as being serious on the bike.”
“Hannah Barnes has got talent in these fast races and whenever you are racing with her you know she’s going to give her all and she did really well today again.”
