
Mia Griffin (DAS-Hutchinson-Brother-UK) his hit the ground running on her return to European pro road racing action, after her recent track campaign. and has already scored her first top 10.
The Irish woman, part of the national team pursuit line-up set for the Paris Olympics, will also be one of six Irish riders in action tomorrow, Wednesday, in the same race in Belgium.
Griffin and team mate Alice Sharpe were in action in CERATIZIT Festival Elsy Jacobs à Luxembourg (1.2) at the weekend, with the duo teaming up in the final sprint to the line, from a reduced bunch of just over 50 riders, after 122km.
Griffin put in a very strong finishing effort to place 8th, with Sharpe just behind in 16th place in Sunday's race. The event was won by Marta Lach (CERATIZIT-WNT Pro Cycling Team) from Scarlett Souren (Volker Wessels) and Anouska Koster (Uno-X Mobility).
Lach also won Saturday's CERATIZIT Festival Elsy Jacobs à Garnich (1.2), also in Luxembourg, from a four-rider breakaway. Griffin and Sharpe were 21st and 24th, in a group at 4:04.
Tomorrow they will ride the 137.4km Cyclis Classic (1.2) in Hamme, Belgium, with Irish team mate Caoimhe O'Brien. Also down to ride is Irish road race champion Lara Gillespie (UAE Development Team), as well as Aoife O'Brien (Cyclingteam Belco-Van Eyck) and Amelia Tyler (Alba Development Road Team).
