Very long range solo breakaway wins out at Gorey Three Day

Racing Team has taken victory on stage 1 of the Gorey Three Day.

The Scottish rider was among a five-man
breakaway that forged clear on the 103km stage from Blessington in Co Wicklow
to Gorey in Co Wexford.

That group pulled out a gap that peaked
at just over one minute, though eventual winner McLean clearly wasn’t happy
with the commitment being shown by the other riders.

And so with about 35km remaining on the
stage he got clear of the others and put his head down for the finish line.

For the remainder of the stage the bunch
held him and then started to gain on him, as the four riders he had left behind
were reabsorbed by the pack.

Despite the large bunch of over 150
riders breathing down the back of his neck as the finish neared, Logan McLean survived
out front to win by a matter of seconds.

The winner’s team mate Adam Mitchell
will wear the mountains jersey tomorrow and the points jersey will be in the
custody of Jerome Becker from Strasbourg.

The racing continues tomorrow with a
split stage comprised of a 6.4km TT in the morning and an 83km road stage in
the afternoon.
