The Gorey Three Day is in danger of not going ahead this year as the level of entries has been so low. However, with more than four weeks remaining before the event is due to take place at Easter, numbers will hopefully pick up.

A statement from the race director, Derek Webb, said the longterm future of the race was at risk because, if it was not run this year, it would be very difficult to revive.

The race was organised from decades by Usher Irish Road Club but switched to a Wexford-based organising group, under race director Derek Webb, with 2022 the first edition under new management.

Webb has now issued an "urgent call for entries", saying the future of the event "hangs in the balance as low entry numbers threaten its cancellation". He has put in place a deadline of March 28th for entries to be lodged.

"The response this year has been disappointing," said Webb. "Because of the lack of interest in the event, I have set a deadline of March 28th to ask all riders interested to enter the event. As it stands, the race won't go ahead, and if we lose it this year, it will be very hard to bring it back."

A statement from the race said the event "has been a cornerstone of the Irish cycling calendar for decades, attracting elite riders and emerging talent from across Ireland and beyond".

"The race has a rich history of producing thrilling competition and providing a platform for young cyclists to showcase their talent on an international stage," it added.

"This iconic event has fostered generations of cyclists and contributed significantly to the sport's development in Ireland. However, without sufficient entries, the race may be lost to the history books."

Webb and the organising team are urging clubs, teams, and individual riders to support the event by committing to race.

"If you've ever considered riding the Gorey Three-Day, now is the time to step up. We need entries to ensure this incredible event continues," Webb added.
