Gabriele Glodenyte of UCD Cycling Club took her second stage win in two days yesterday at the Newry Three Day and when she gained time with her strong finishing surge she also took the final yellow jersey of the event.
On yesterday's final stage stage 1 winner Darcey Harkness (Cycling Ulster) was in the race lead, though 10 riders were all equal on time as they had all finished in the reduced groups sprinting for victory on both stage 1 and stage 2.
Glodenyte proved too strong for her rivals in the Spelga Dam finish yesterday and gained time on them all; her team mate Emma Porter best of the rest in 2nd place at 10 seconds. After the winner and runner-up came two impressive U16 riders - Aine Doherty of VC Glendale and Aliyah Rafferty of Island Wheelers placing 3rd and 4th on the stage at 11 and 14 seconds respectively.
Race leader Harkness was back in 10th place and lost 41 seconds to the stage winner; the stage result ensuring the general classification was completely re-ordered after the tough finish took its toll.
Glodenyte ran out the overall winner by 10 seconds from Port with Doherty 3rd at 11 seconds, Rafferty 4th at 14 seconds and Catherine Sands of promoting club Newry Wheelers 5th overall at 19 seconds.
