Gabriele Glodenyte (UCD Cycling Club) has won stage 2 of the Newry Three Day but was unable to dislodged yesterday's victory Darcey Harkness (Cycling Ulster) from the race leader's yellow jersey.
Today's stage winner took a massive step up in her career earlier this year when she beat top names Caoimhe O’Brien (Torelli-Assure-Cayman Islands-Scimitar) and Eve McCrystal (Bellurgan Wheelers) for victory in the Cycling Ireland National Road Series Brian O'Loughlin Memorial in May.
Today, the UCD rider was best in the final push for the line at the end of 54km of racing on the Rathfriland Circuit; getting the better of the others in the 14-rider lead group that put time into the rest of the field.

Race leader Harkness - who won the opening stage in identical, if much wetter, circumstances was just behind Glodenyte today; 2nd on the stage and defending the race lead well. Her Cycling Ulster team mate Jemma Speers, who was runner-up on stage 1, claimed 3rd place today.
Just behind that top three came one of the most promising U16 riders in the country, Aliyah Rafferty of Island Wheelers. She took 4th place - a great ride for the 15-year-old competing against elite riders.
As 10 riders in the field finished in the front group on both today's stage and yesterday's opener, they are all equal on time heading into the final stage tomorrow, when Cycling Ulster will look to defend against inevitable multiple attacks.
