Lara Gillespie (UAE Development Team) was back to winning ways on Sunday at the Dublin Track International after being surprised by sailing Olympic medal winner Annalise Murphy (Longcourt Hotel NCW) with a winning attack in the scratch race on Saturday.

Gillespie is a prolific medal-winner for Ireland on the track and has impressed in the European peloton on the road already this year. On Sunday she was best in the omnium at the UCI Class 2 meeting on the Sundrive Velodrome in Crumlin.

The 22-year-old took victory, after the four events, on 154 points from fellow track international, Emily Kay (Loughborough Lightning), who scored 135 points. British rider Lucy Nelson (Spectra Cannondale) rounded out the podium on 113 points.

No breakdown of results for each of the four races was to hand at the time of writing, but stickybottle will update if those results become available from Cycling Ireland.

In the men's scratch race, Aaron Wade (Equipo Cortizo) was best, adding victory to his 3rd place finish in the men's omnium on the opening day of racing on Saturday. Wade, who won the young rider classification in Rás Tailteann the week before last, made a solo move with 18 laps to go on Sunday.

He pulled out a sizeable gap, equal to about half the track, on the chasing group and had the legs to take it home for victory. Top sprinter Harvey Barnes (East Tyrone Cycling Club) threw in an attack from the following group and managed to get clear close to the finish to take 2nd. Yacine Chalel (Algeria) won the sprint for 3rd place.

“After a couple of laps we were working well together, everybody was doing up and overs to keep the speed going for the first couple of laps," said winner Wade. "Then after 10 laps attacks started happening. I put on a big gear to see if I could go big and did my attack. I got away and it was a grim 20 laps solo then to the line.”

In the men's points race, Stefan Caulfield-Drier (Spellman-Dublin Port) took a tally of 31 points to win, by four points, from Wade, with Kieran Riley (Spellman Dublin Port) taking 3rd on 21 points.

“I just tried to race it aggressively and get up the road," said Caulfield-Drier. "(I) decided to run a smaller gear than I normally would, knowing that everyone was going to tire out and hopefully I’d have it in the end, and luckily (it) worked out.”

Irish international Orla Walsh (Nopinz Motip Racing Team) won the Keirin from Deirbhle Ivory (Longcourt Hotel-NCW) and Lucy Nelson (Spectra Cannodale). The men's sprint was won by Hungary’s Norbert Szabo (ASC-SEPSI-SIC) from Irish-based Spanish rider Juan Rodriguez (Sundrive Track Team).
