George Sevastopulo (Sundrive Track Team) has dusted himself down from the disappointment of his international road debut for the Irish national team a couple of weeks ago by taking his first win of the season.

The 17-year-old second-year junior came through on the night to win well at the Mondello Series in Co Kildare after the field split to pieces in conditions that were so wet and track inspection was required before racing got the go-ahead.

Sevastopulo, best known as a track rider including competing for Ireland, made his debut for the national team on the road at Course de la Paix Juniors (2.Ncup) two weeks ago.

However, despite holding his own in the early stages of the race, he crashed at the end of the third stage and, having suffered a suspected head impact, he did not start the next day.

But on Tuesday night he led in the front group, numbering just nine riders. Dubliner Sevastopulo was pushed closest by fellow junior rider Conor Regan (Kilcullen CC Murphy Geospatial).

There was then a bigger gap back to the others, with Andrew Regan (Lucan CRC) ronding out the podium on the night. Doireann Killeen (Kilcullen CC Murphy Geospatial) won the women's category.
