David Conroy was crowned Leinster cyclocross champion this afternoon following a thrilling battle with Paul O’Reilly (UCD-Fitzcycles.ie) and Niall Davis (Biking.ie).
The Donnybrook Landscaping-Eurocycles man, who has won national junior and U23 titles, decided to tackle the elite race today and came away with the gold medal after an assured display in the eight-lap contest.
He and the aforementioned O’Reilly and Davis were inseparable for much of the race.
But when O’Reilly suffered an ill-timed mechanical on the final lap, Conroy made a burst for home and never looked back.
Davis managed to take second with O’Reilly taking the final step on the podium.

The race was also the final leg of the Planet-X sponsored, Navan CC-promoted winter series and Conroy’s win is his third of the season at the Blackwater Park venue.
And as Conroy had opted to ride the senior event, the U23 title went to Hugo Brennan of Sundrive with Cian May claiming the junior crown.
There was a huge afternoon of action on a perfect day for racing with races for U16 boys all the way up to Masters 60.
The former was won in stomping fashion by one of the real up and coming talents in the sport, Adam McGarr of Biking.ie.

He dispatched Ross Ennis of Swords CC who took silver and the emerging Sean Nolan (Navan).
Anthony Doyle (Strata3-VeloRevolution) led the Masters 40 race from start to finish, as did Mick Jordan in the Masters 50 race.
Terence O'Neill took the honours in the Masters 60 race while the women's title was taken by Sylvia Gallagher who had an epic battle with Breda Goran before taking a narrow victory.
Third across the line was Caoimhe May (Scott-Orwell Wheelers) to take the junior title from Caoimhe O’Brien (Lakeside Wheelers Mullingar) with Stephanie Roche taking the bronze.
