Full results Girls Youth Champs: Doherty & Finn win big in biblical conditions

Aine Doherty of VC Glendale has won the main event – the U16-U15
girls road race – at the National Youth Championships in Gorey, Co Wexford.

Racing in a downpour, Doherty finished on her own out
front to claim the U15 title, with Shauna Finn of Newcastle CC next home,
claiming the U16 gold medal.

After Finn in that U16 race came Katie Reilly (Orwell Wheelers
CC), for silver, and Aoife Mooney (Navan Road Club), claiming bronze.

While Doherty won the U15 crown, Mia Smith of Waterford Racing took the silver medal and Zoe Lindsay of TC Racing rounded out the podium with bronze.

In the combined U16-U15 criterium title race, it was two of the U15 riders who were out front alone at the end sprinting for gold; Lucy Brown of Phoenix CC just pipping road race champion Doherty.

Mia Smith (Waterford Racing) was again in the medals and
added an U15 criterium bronze medal to the silver she took in the U15 road
race.

The U16 criterium race saw Katie Reilly top the podium in
the colours of Orwell Wheelers, with Shauna Finn (Newcastlewest CC) winning
silver and Aoife Mooney (Navan Road Club) taking the bronze medal.

In the U14-U13 road, also run off in very wet conditions, Navan Road Club’s Mya Doocey won in a bunch sprint. She just saw off Aliyah Rafferty (Island Wheelers) and Kate Murphy (Sliabh Luachra CC), who took the silver and bronze medals respectively.

In the U13 race, Ffion Dolan (Cuchulainn CC) claimed gold
with Cara Suckling (Maryland Wheelers) in 2nd and Sarah Gaffney (Dungarvan CC)
placing 3rd.

In the combined U13-U14 criterium, Mya Doocey (Navan Road
Club) and Aliyah Rafferty (Island Wheelers) were out front at the end of the
contest, with Doocey just getting the verdict from her rival.

Just behind them, Aine Reilly of Orwell Wheelers came
through seconds later to claim the U14 bronze medal.

In the U13 criterium title race Joann Connor (Drogheda Wheelers) claimed the gold medal from Elsie Cunningham (Orwell Wheelers) and Cara Suckling (Maryland Wheelers).

In the U11-U12 road race, Isabelle Gaffney (Dungarvan CC)
won the event, and so claimed the U11 title. Emer Heverin (Kinning Cycles
Cycling Club) crossed the line next and so won the U12 crown.

After Gaffney in the U11 category, Aoife Craig (VC
Glendale) won the silver medal and Clodagh Quigley (Foyle CC) claimed the
bronze.

After Heverin in the U12 race, Lacey Aickenjohnson (North
Down CC) claimed the silver medal and Ysabella Huele (Orwell Wheelers Cycling
Club) took the bronze.

In the combined U12-U11 criterium, Emer Heverin (Kinning Cycles Cycling Club) took the U12 crown. Ysabella Huele (Orwell Wheelers Cycling Club) was 2nd and Lacey Aickenjohnson (North Down CC) took bronze.

In the U11 race, Aoife Craig (VC Glendale) won the gold medal from Isabelle Gaffney (Dungarvan CC), with Clodagh Quigley (Foyle CC) taking bronze.
