Daire Feeley stands on the top step of the podium after winning the Shannonside CC GP in Athlone today. The iTap rider has been one of the real stars of the 2016 season and is showing no signs of slowing down.
By Brian Canty
Daire Feeley was a thoroughly convincing winner of the first ever Shannonside CC GP in Athlone, the iTap rider soloing away from the winning break on the last lap to become the first winner of the Pat Coyle Cup.
That break was gone on the first of four 33-kilometre laps and Feeley made his race-winning attack on the final one, holding off Paul Kennedy (Newcastlewest CC) and Simon Ryan (Mego RAW Cycles).
The A3 race (three laps) was won by Matthew Kennedy (Nenagh CC) in a two-up sprint with Owen Woods (North Tipp) with the bunch 10 seconds behind.
The two-lap A4 event was won in a bunch sprint by Aidan Gorry from Lakeside Wheelers CC with Owen Hickey (Naas CC) and Tom Daly (O’Leary's Stone Kanturk) rounding out the podium.
The first two ladies were Nicole Gorry (Lakeside Wheelers) and Laura Shannon (Burren CC), respectively.
- The Pat Coyle Cup is in memory of Pat who died suddenly this year whilst cycling in Belgium.
