Dean Harvey's winning ride in the men's race at the National Cyclocross Championships looked impressive but is really put into perspective considering his winning margin - over riders who are the best in the country, in cyclocross or road, on their day.
New elite champion Harvey (Trinity Racing) completed the six laps of McCrystal Park, Jenkinstown, Co Louth, in a time of 56mins 21secs. That was 1:45 up on Chris Dawson (Dawson Racing), last year's winner and current national eRacing champion. Darren Rafferty (Hagens Berman Axeon), now a second-year U23 who has already taken a major international victory, was 3:07 down in 3rd place.
Just 12 riders finished on the same lap as the winner - see times below - on a day when the riders were hit with a hail shower just before the start and rain as the race progressed. Apologies for the delay with bringing you these results but we didn't have them to hand last night.
