Fran Meehan has climbed the overall classification at the Shutt VR Women’s Bedford Three Day in Bedfordshire after claiming her first top ten on a stage of this year's race. Riding for a Leinster selection this weekend, the National Cyclocross Champion and Paralympic medallist was 9th on this afternoon's third stage, an 80km road race at Keysoe.
The race split very significantly today and when the strong women in the field emerged on top Meehan was among them. She lost just 12 seconds to stage winner Amy Hill (Abergavenny RC), with what was left of a select group coming home 41 seconds after the Irish woman. That result has moved her up the overall standings with tomorrow morning's split stage - a morning TT followed by an afternoon road race - still to come.

Meehan is now in 18th place overall, just 59 seconds down on leader Amy Gornall (Scott Contessa).
Ireland's Lydia Boylan (Team CTC) was fourth in the bunch sprint that settled the opening stage yesterday. However, an inquiry resulted in a number of riders being relegated which promoted Boylan to third on the stage; an excellent result given that many of the best riders in Britain are in the field this weekend.
