There were four Irish wins today on the opening day of action at the Dublin Track International at the Sundrive Velodrome in Eamon Ceannt Park, Crumlin. Lara Gillespie and Emily Kay were in action in the women's madison, taking victory while junior rider Oisin Ferrity also claimed wins in the scratch and elimination races to win the junior overall.
In the scratch race, sailing Olympian - and silver medal winner at the Rio 2016 Games - Annalise Murphy went up against some very experienced riders, including Irish internationals, and came away with victory.
Murphy, riding for Longcourt Hotel NCW, was best ahead of Lara Gillespie (UAE Development Team) and British rider Lucy Nelson (Spectra Cannondale).
In the madison, Gillespie and Kay were victorious ahead of Aoife O’Brien and Erin Creighton, riding for Spellman-Dublin Port and McConvey Cycles respectively. Nelson and Gabriella Homer, both Spectra Cannondale, were 3rd.
The sprinters were also in action today, with the women's sprint and the men's keirin down for decision. In the women's sprint, Orla Walsh (Nopinz Motip Racing Team) won from Lara Gillespie (UAE Development Team) and Deirbhle Ivory (Longcourt Hotel NCW). The men's keirin was won by Mikhail Yakovlev (Israel) from Norbert Szabo (ASC-SEPSI-SIC) and Hamish Turnbull (Team Inspired).
The men's omnium was won by Anders Fynbo (Spellman Dublin Port), on 125 points, from Facundo Gabriel Lezica (Toot Reparto Corse), 122 points. Aaron Wade, one of the main men during last week's Rás Tailteann, of Cortizo Aluminium Team, was 3rd with 104 points.
National road race champion Ferrity topped the junior classification today from David Harrington (Orwell Wheelers) and Adam Cullen (Barrow Wheelers)
