Formolo disqualified from Tour de Luxembourg for this move | Video

Davide Formolo took one of his best results of the season today only to lose it with TV footage was reviewed by the commissaires

Davide Formolo (Movistar Team) took one of his best results of the season today, when he was 2nd at Tour de Luxembourg, but soon lost it when video footage of his breakaway ride was reviewed.

The Italian was in a two-man move with eventual stage winner, Mauri Vansevenant (Soudal Quick-Step), and though he was dropped by the Belgian with 4km to go, he took 2nd at 18 seconds and moved up to 2nd overall.

However, the UCI commissaires reviewed his descending during his breakaway ride and found he used an illegal super-tuck position. He has been disqualified from the results and is also now out of the race.

His team accepted the outcome saying: "Unfortunately, the technical jury has decided to remove David Formolo from the race.

"(The jury) cited in its official statement the 'use of a position or support point on the bike that does not comply with the regulations, which poses a danger to the rider'. The Italian from the Movistar Team will therefore not be able to take part in tomorrow's ITT."
