Nicolas Roche will come out of retirement to represent Ireland at the upcoming UCI Cycling Esports World Championships next month.
A five-strong team is picked for the event with Roche riding the men's event alongside Chris McGlinchey and Richard Barry, who were 1st and 3rd at the recent Esports National Championships, run as a demonstration race this year.
Two riders have been selected for the women's race, including National Esports Championships winner Mary Corless and national road champion Imogen Cotter.
The world title races take place on Saturday, February 26th, on the New York, Knickerbocker course for a total distance of 54.9km with 944m of elevation.
Powerups - the ability to temporarily boost power and other aspects of performance - will be used during the men's and women's races.
A total of seven powerups can be used by each rider in the races and working out the ideal strategy to deploy them will be a key feature of the races.
McGlinchey is the only rider in the team who has ridden the Esports Worlds before as he was the sole rider selected by Ireland to compete in last year's inaugural championships.
More to come.
