First stage race action of 2025 road season set for this weekend

The 2025 road race season rolls on this weekend with the first stage race action of the campaign set to unfold on the roads of Co Mayo. There is also one-day action in Co Louth and a team time trial in Co Cork.

On Saturday - March 25th - the two-day Rás Mhaigheo, based out of Westport, gets underway with a split stage, comprised of a morning stage 1 road race of 110km and a stage 2 TT, of 7km, later in the day. The race concludes with a 120km road stage on Sunday.

The race is open to all categories - C1, C2, C3 and women - and will be run on a handicap basis for the two road stages. There are also prizes for all categories, with a total prize fund of €3,000.

On Sunday - March 26th - Midleton Cycling and Triathlon Club hosts the John Shanahan Team Time Trial; a 28km 2-rider TTT, with both scratch and time-bonus options. There are prizes in all categories. Paracyclists in the field will compete for the Revolution Cup.

Also on Sunday, Jons Drogheda Wheelers is promoting its annual Coombes Connor races, from Bellewstown Racecourse over a 14.5km circuit.

There are three races: C3s racing for 58km, starting at 11.30am; the C1s racing for 116km and starting at 1:15pm; the C2s racing for 87km and starting at 1:18pm.
