First Irish eRacing National Champs unveiled, with head-to-head finale

The inaugural Irish eRacing Championships are now all set. A qualifying event takes place next month and the title races are in January, when all finalists will meet at a venue and go head-to-head for the medals

Cycling Ireland has confirmed the inaugural National eRacing Championships will take place in January, with a qualification race to come next month.

While a national team was selected for the UCI eRacing World Championships at the start of this year after eRacing really took off during lock-down, Ireland has never held eRacing national title races before now.

Cycling Ireland has yet to confirm full details of what is planned, though the national governing body has confirmed a qualifying race will be run as the first stage of the eRacing championships.

From that qualification event, 10 riders will qualify to meet in-person at a venue in Dublin on January 15th to decide who wins the medals. The fact the finalists will face-off against each other in a head-to-head should be a great spectacle.

However, there isn't much time to prepare as the qualification race will take place in just over three weeks time.

That qualification event takes place at 10am on Saturday, December 18th, over one lap of the Watopia Figure 8 course, for a total race distance of 29.8km. Men and women will start separately at one-minute intervals, Cycling Ireland confirmed today.
