The foreign invaders have made their presence felt on the opening stage of Rás na mBan, dominating the stage placings and taking the lead in the team and queen of the mountains competition.
Dutch rider Femke Van Kessel (BWVG Bike 4 Air Dames) overcame an early crash on the opening 66km road stage this morning and emerged quickest in the group sprint to the line in Sneem to take victory.
She carries the yellow jersey into this afternoon’s 3km climbing TT, having edged out of Lowri Bunn (Abergavenny Road Club) and Karla Boddy (High Wycombe CC) in the sprint to the line for the stage 1 win.
Danish rider Amalie Diderickson (Reelight/Bike Toyz-Kvickl) has taken the lead in the IVCA Queen of the Mountains jersey after taking both hill primes today. The Sneem Hotel County Classification is led by Cork’s Fiona Meade (Munster), last year’s first stage winner.

The best of the Irish today was Lauren Creamer of the Irish national team in 10th place.
