Feeley wins Tuam GP with long-range attack on soft day in the west

Daire Feeley has won today's Tuam Grand Prix promoted by Tuam Cycling Club

Daire Feeley has taken victory in the Tuam Grand Prix in Co Galway on a day when the rain fell on the riders from start to the finish. The All human-VeloRevolution man, showing no signs of slowing after his Rás Tailteann win last month, took the initiative with about 35km to go and won solo by about two minutes.

Contested over five laps of a 20km circuit, the Tuam Cycling Club promotion was run on rolly terrain, with the wind and the rain making for a challenging day in the saddle.

With two climbs each lap and little by way of shelter on the course, several moves got clear though it looked like the race may be headed to a group sprint as the laps ticked down.

Feeley managed to get free at one point with Aaron Rafferty (Spin11-Chain Reaction RT) and while they made for a strong pairing off the front, they were eventually recaptured. Mark Shannon (Burren CC) also drove another move in the latter half of the race, though it was also closed down.

Matthew Devins (Trinity Racing) was back in competition after a nasty crash during the Rás and he was very active today; riding strongly and his work ensuring the race regrouped several times.

However, when the bunch stalled with about 35km to go Feeley had another go and this time got clear alone; striking out for the line and making it all the way.

Shannon was best of the rest for 2nd place with Daniel Bresnan (Greenmount CA) rounding out the podium in a soft day in the west.
