Daire Feeley has continued his strong run of form of late, taking victory in the Claremorris Criterium in the Co Mayo town last evening, Friday.
The Team iTap man led home from Aaron Doherty of Westport Covey Wheelers, with the runner-up’s team mate Eoghan McLoughlin rounding out the podium.
Feeley is having a very strong season and while he has been very consistent he took his first win of the year at the Donamon GP in Roscommon last Sunday.
And last night he doubled his win tally for the season in emphatic style, suggesting he is hitting form just in time for the National Road Championships in Kilcullen, Co Kildare, next weekend.
Feeley, who has recently returned from international duty in the US, started in the A1-A2 group which was chasing the A3-A4 bunch over a 1.2km circuit.
With the contest set for 45 minutes and three laps, Brendan Butler of promoting club Western Lakes CC went for an early flyer and took the prime after 10 minutes.
And just shy of halfway through the set 45 minutes, the winning breakaway of Feeley, McLoughlin and Doherty escaped.
Once clear they continued to build their lead, Doherty riding especially well considering he is still an U16.
And that’s how it stayed until the finish, where Feeley had too much for the others.
