Feeley is runaway winner of Cycling Ireland A1 rankings: 171 riders rated

Daire Feeley (All human-VeloRevolution) has emerged the clear winner of Cycling Ireland's A1 rider rankings for the 2021 season.

Feeley ended the campaign on 251 points, more than double this year's rankings runner-up, Gareth O'Neill (Caldwell Cycles), who scored 113.

Lindsay Watson (Powerhouse Sport) was 3rd on 105 points followed by Tom Regan (Seven Springs CC Loughrea) on 95 and Chris McGlinchey (Spectra Wiggle p/b Vitus) on 89 points.

Feeley is a former junior international who went to race abroad for several seasons, with UC Monaco and then EvoPro Racing. He returned to the domestic scene last season, when he went on a prolific run and topped the rankings in the pandemic-hit 2020 season.

This year he did the same and capped an excellent season by taking the silver medal in the elite men's race at the National Road Championships. He was beaten in the two-up sprint for the title in Co Wicklow last month by Ryan Mullen of Trek Segafredo.

This year Feeley won the Noel Teggart Memorial, Starsky WarmEwis-Sempre Road Race, a stage of the Newcastle West Stage Race, the Sliabh Luachra Clasaicí, Rás Cill Mocheallog, the John Ferguson Cup, Connacht Road Race Championship and took silver in both the road and criterium nationals.

As well as topping the A1 rankings, Feeley also won the Cycling Ireland National Road Series this year, cementing his place as the most successful male rider on the domestic scene.

O’Neill took several wins in quick succession. They included the Annaclone GP, Carn Classic and Hilltown GP. Watson took victory in the Ards Criterium, four rounds of the Ernie Magwood TT Series, the Boyne GP and Brendan Campbell Memorial.
