Everesting world record holder McLaughlin wins Ulster Hill Climb Champs

Ronan McLaughlin has claimed victory in the Ulster Hill Climb Championships in Derry today

Ronan McLaughlin, the Everesting world record holder and recent winner of the Donegal Ultra 555km, has taken the elite men's gold medal at the Ulster Hill Climb Championships.

The Dan Morrissey-MIG-Pactimo rider recorded a time of 10:21, some 21 seconds faster than Craig McAuley (Caldwell Cycles), with junior Darren Rafferty (Island Wheelers) putting in a great ride to take 3rd just six seconds slower than McAuley.

Sharon Bird claimed the elite women’s title in the colours of Ballymena Road Club in a time of 13:36.

She was 1:36 up on Kerrie McIlmoyle of promoting club Roe Valley CC. Emma Smith of Bann Wheelers took the silver 3:13 off Bird’s winning time.
