Eve McCrystal best of Irish at Rás na mBan
Alice Barnes of Team GB has gone one better and taken victory on stage 2 of Am Post Rás na mBan in Co Kilkenny this afternoon.
Tuning up at this race for the World Road Championships in Bergen later this month, Barnes was 2nd on yesterday’s opening stage.
And today she overcame a crash to taken victory on the second stage. She sprinted in at the head of a 28-rider group despite falling just 7km from the finish.

The 22-year-old for the better of Swedes Frida Knutsson (Team Crescent DARE) and Wlima Olausson (Backstedt Hotchillee) at the end of 75 km in Castlecomer.
However, her victory wasn’t enough to dislodge Belle de Gast (WV Breda) from the leader’s pink jersey. She took the opening stage by two seconds and still leads by that margin.
And despite falling off herself today, she remounted and finished in the group sprinting for victory.
Barnes has the consolation of leading the points classification. And at the finish today she brushed off her earlier spill.
"The corner felt really slippy. We weren't actually going that fast. One rider went down and it was a case of, you've not got enough room and I was third or fourth wheel.

“I crashed, stood up and slipped again and just had to wait to stop sliding. I got back on and came in to the finish and it was quick.
“Actually you're sort of sprinting down the hill to get in first place over the bridge. And then you've got to sprint out of it.
“It was a tough one and I'm really happy to hold on and get the win."
Race leader de Gast came off at the base of the first categorised climb of the day. But by the second ascent she was back in the group and taking maximum points over the top of the Bilboa climb after 51km.
The former speed skater and ice hockey player is completely new to cycling but is clearly learning fast. She was 8th today and leads by two seconds from Barnes.
Queen of the mountains Laura Massey was 2nd over the first climb, behind Team GB’s Elinor Barker and was 3rd on the next climb to retain her climbers’ jersey.
And while Barnes is 2nd overall and leads the points classification, she is also the leading U23 rider in the race.
Eve McCrystal (Garda CC) is leading Irish rider and was 7th today, two places ahead of Lydia Boylan (Team WNT).
The race heads for a summit finish at Mount Leinster tomorrow at the end of 112km. It should put some serious order on the general standings.
