Video: Incredible moment Eve McCrystal realises she's Irish champ

Eve McCrystal's stunned delight was clear to see and hear, even though she struggled off the bike after a huge championship race effort. This brilliant photo was captured by Caroline Kerley, who also makes a cameo appearance in the video, along with Cycling Ireland coach Martin O'Loughlin.

It is perhaps the most overdue national road crown in Irish cycling, but Eve McCrystal has done it.

She’s won silver twice and bronze three times in the TT championship race since 2013; her third bronze coming last Thursday night.

And in the road race title contest she took silver two years ago; behind Lydia Boylan.

But now finally McCrystal’s seventh elite road championship medal is the one that counts most; gold.

The Garda CC-Richies Bikes rider got clear in the breakaway in the elite women’s road race in Sligo today.
