Fresh from taking a very strong win in the Navan Road Club-promoted Beechmount Cup in Co Meath three weeks ago, emerging young Dublin rider James Davenport has added the Leinster Hill Climb Championships to his growing list of results.
The South Dublin CC man was quickest in the burst up Jenkinstown Hill in Co Louth last night, Thursday. The event was promoted by Cuchulainn CC and doubled as the Co Louth Hill Climb Championships.
Davenport’s time of 4mins 35secs was seven seconds quicker than local man Ray O’Shaughnessy (Cuchulainn CC), who clocked 4:42.
Just one second slower than him was David Wherity of Stamullen and Brian McArdle of Orwell Wheelers. They both clocked 4:43 and were both awarded the Leinster title race bronze medal on the night.
The A2 gold went to Aidan Collins of Orwell, while the A3 crown was won by Kevin Donagher (Unattached).
Quickest of the women and juniors on the night were Isabel Cogan (Orwell) and Aimhirghin O’Brannagain (Cuchulainn) respectively, both bagging a coveted provincial title for their troubles.
Having taken silver in the Leinster A1 title race, Ray O’Shaughnessy was quickest of the Louth men in the field and so came away with the county title. His Cuchulainn CC team mate Breda Dawe took to the women’s county title.
