Egan Bernal has taken his first race win since his life-threatening crash while training in Colombia three years ago; hitting a bus on his TT bike.
Indeed, his victory today in the Colombian TT championships was the first time he had won a race since his Giro d'Italia overall victory in May, 2021.
The Ineos Grenadiers rider was emotional as he was hugged by supporters in Bucaramanga after racing around the 42.2km course in an average speed of 49.794kmph.
His time of 50:51 was just seven seconds faster than runner-up Walter Vargas, the three-time Colombian champion, and reigning Pan American champion, who rides for Team Medellín-EPM.
Bernal's Ineos Grenadiers team mate, Brandon Riveria, claimed the bronze medal, some 29 seconds down.
