Cycling Munster has decided to put a €5 levy on all Cycling Ireland licences for 2022 in a bid to raise funds for developing cycling in the province.

The move was proposed at Cycling Munster's annual general meeting and was approved by those present.

The decision to add the levy to the cost of licences is an addition to a €5 levy that was already in place for some licence holders.

As a result of the levy, an additional €5 charge will be applied to adult 'leisure' and 'competitive' members within the province.

That will bring the Cycling Munster levy on leisure membership up to €10 as a €5 levy was already in places for those licences.

And for limited and full competition licence holders, the additional €5 for 2022 is the only levy that will be on those licences because none was in place before now.

The revenue raised by the levy will be used specifically for developing cycling in Munster and it does not go to Cycling Ireland.

The motion that went before the provincial AGM said the €5 being applied to the cost of licences would be used to "further develop all cycling disciplines, such as Rás Mumhan and other stage races, a youth league (and) a UCI cyclocross event and league".

The money would also be used for a "leisure league which is still under development" as well as to develop women's cycling, BMX and MTB events in Munster.

“We have and we will continue to financially support a cyclocross-specific circuit, an outdoor track and cycling equipment where needed," Cycling Munster said regarding how the funds would be used.

"We have also subsidised Cycling Munster kit and over the last few years commissioned a proper Cycling Munster medal and make these available to the Munster championships at the various disciplines, with Cycling Munster paying these costs.

"We also need to restock on some of our safety led costs where we have radios, lights and signage available to promoters within the province.”

The costs of the 2022 licences, and the impact of the levies on those costs, is set out in the table below.
