Denis Dunworth was crowned Irish National Hill Climb Champion for 2015 at the weekend when he recorded the quickest time on the 6.5 kilometre course in Ballingeary, Co Cork.
The Tralee man, riding for the Moda Kingdom Endurance Sports team, was 25 seconds quicker than John Lee of Trim CC with Cian Sutcliffe (Lucan CRC) taking the bronze medal.
Upwards of 50 riders took part on the day across the four categories; a very healthy number so late in the year when many riders have hung up their wheels for the season.
In the men’s over-40 category, 15 seconds was all that separated the top three with the aforementioned Lee taking the gold ahead of former national road race champion Hugh Mulhearne of Carrick Wheelers.

Frank Billings was nine seconds slower than Mulhearne, who himself came up six seconds short of the gold medal.
AJ Murphy was victorious in the men’s over-50 category.
Sean Hargan (Phoenix CC) made the long trip down from the North for the event and he absolutely blitzed the Masters 60 field, beating his nearest challenger by over three minutes.
