Dunwoody takes first Irish win for 11 years at Chrono des Nations | Video

Seth Dunwoody has followed in the footsteps of Ryan Mullen, taking Ireland's first win for 11 years at Chrono des Nations in France

Seth Dunwoody (Bahrain Victorious) has followed in the footsteps of World Tour rider Ryan Mullen in taking victory today in France at the Chrono des Nations UCI-ranked TT.

The teenager claimed the junior victory in the iconic late season event by a very comfortable margin some 11 years after Mullen, now riding with Red Bull-Bora-hansgrohe, won the U23 event, which he claimed in both 2012 and 2013.

Dunwoody has enjoyed a fantastic 2024, his second season at junior level, with today's victory his fourth in a UCI-ranked event. It came on a day when Adam Rafferty (Hagens Berman Jayco) and his sister, Aliyah Rafferty (Team 31 Jolly Cycles) rode very well in France.

Adam Rafferty, a first-year U23 who claimed 10th in the U23 TT at the Worlds last month, was 4th in the U23 TT today. That was won by Worlds silver medalist Jakob Söderqvist (Lidl-Trek Future Racing), who went around the course in 27.23km course in Les Herbiers in an average speed of 51.485kmph, to clock a time of 31:44.

That time was 47 seconds faster than Italian Luca Giaimi (UAE Team Emirates Gen Z), with Belgian Jonathan Vervenne (Soudal-Quick-Step Devo Team) 3rd at 48 seconds and Rafferty 4th at 57 seconds.

In the junior men's race, Dunwoody recorded an average speed of 49.434kmph, recording a time of 33:03, and winning by 42 seconds from French junior Ellande Larronde (URT Vélo 64). Belgium's Thibaut Van Damme (Team GRENKE-Auto Eder) was 3rd at 49 seconds.

France's Ambre Jouault (Team Breizh Ladies) was 2nd, at seven seconds, with Ukraine's Milana Ushakova (Van Moer Logistics Cycling Team) 3rd at 24 seconds and Rafferty next, in 4th and 28 seconds down.
