Dunlevy-McCrystal wrap up UCI World Cup victory with double gold in Canada

The Irish riders took gold and silver in both the 'Women's B' TT and road race at the Paracycling Road World Cup in Quebec City at the weekend

Paralympic
champions Katie George Dunlevy and her pilot Eve McCrystal have wrapped up UCI
World Cup victory after claiming two gold medals in Canada over the weekend.

They
won both the TT and the road race at the Paracycling Road World Cup in Quebec
City. The Irish dominated the ‘Women’s B’ tandem TT and road race at the
meeting, with Josie Healion and her pilot Linda Kelly taking silver in
both events behind their compatriots.

The
double gold medal win for Dunlevy and McCrystal mean they have secured the Paracycling
Road World Cup overall for the 2022 season.

Ronan
Grimes, the European TT champion, also took another medal in Canada when he
claimed silver in the race against the clock. After that TT success, Grimes
then went into the road race in Canada and took another silver medal.

Damien Vereker and his pilot Dillon Corkery finish 6th in the ‘Men’s B’ TT in Canada. Gary O’Reilly was 7th in the ‘Men’s H5’ TT while Declan Slevin was 13th in the ‘Men’s H3’ TT. Vereker and Corkery then took 5th in their road race while O’Reilly and Slevin were 5th and 14th in their road races.

Cycling Ireland head coach, Neill Delahaye, said the team would now go on to the Para-Cycling World Championships, which take place from August 11th to 14th in Baie-Comeau, Canada.

“The primary objective for the team in Canada will be to deliver performance consistency, across both time trial and road race in each competition, ensuring we secure adequate nations ranking points to keep Ireland on track with our Paris 2024 qualification ambitions," he said.

"Most of the team are experienced campaigners and they have been working very hard since the last races in May to be at their best for August. Preparation has gone well, and I know everyone travelling harbours ambition to push for podiums."
