Katie George Dunlevy, and her pilot Linda Kelly, have won their UCI World Road Championships TT in Zurich today, adding the rainbow bands to their Paralympic gold and silver from the summer in Paris.
The Irish duo have gotten Ireland's campaign in Zurich off to the best possible start while the other Irish tandem pairing in the Women's B TT this morning, Josephine Healion and her pilot Eve McCrystal, were 4th.
The new Irish 2024 world champions blasted around the 29.9km course this morning in a time of 43:14. They took the lead through the early intermediate checks and victory looked assured - though it is never guaranteed - very soon into the race.
By the finish they beat the Great Britain duo of Unwin-Holl by 1:09, a considerable margin over this distance. The second tandem from Great Britain, Fachie-Hall, claimed the bronze medal at 1:38.
In the 12-bike race, Healion and McCrystal were 4th, some 3:09 down on their gold-winning compatriots.
More to come.
