Eddie Dunbar is really flying at the Tour de Savoie Mont Blanc and for the second day in a row he was up the road in the break. The 19 year-old is loving the climbs and is more than holding his own against the big guns.

Eddie Dunbar was up the road in the break again today on stage 3 of the Tour de Savoie Mont Blanc (2.2) though the escape was reeled in and he lost time to the winner, Pierre Luc Perichon (Fortuneo Vital Concept).
In this evening’s split stage TT he was a very strong 15th, clocking 14’12” for the very technical and lumpy test against the clock.
Though he is no threat to the overall they are very fine performances in the company of some big names.
And his Axeon Hagens Berman team are clearly in high spirits too as they took a brilliant 1-2 in this evening’s time trial.
American Adrien Costa won and Portugese Ruben Guerreiro was 2nd while Briton Tao Geoghegan Hart was 8th.
Dunbar was only 24 seconds off the winning time of his teammate Costa.
Earlier on, in the road stage, Geoghegan Hart, Guerreiro and Dunbar were part of an 18-man breakaway that enjoyed a 1’25” advantage over the peloton with 50 kilometres remaining.
When their escape was finally caught with around 30 kilometres from the finish, Guerreiro and eventual stage winner Perichon went on the attack, the latter edging it by a few seconds with the bunch around half a minute back.
Geoghegan Hart and Costa (ninth) both finished in the top 10 with Dunbar 22nd at 55 seconds after doing a tremendous job in looking after Geoghegan Hart who is well-placed on GC.
Tomorrow’s final stage takes the riders on another savage 130-kilometre trek around the Alps where they’ll tackle three category one climbs including the Col du Colombiére with around 20 kilometres to go.
