Downhill: Reid puts illness aside to take first blood in Rostrevor

Ben Reid put a recent bout of pneumonia behind him to take the first round of the ‘ChainReactionCycles.com Irish Downhill Mountain Bike Series’ in Kilbroney Forest, Rostrevor, at the weekend.

The Dirt Norco rider took victory by a significant margin of almost five seconds from Ewan Doherty (OC Tuning), with Greg Callaghan (OC Tuning) less than half a second further back in third.

Reid had been forced by illness to miss the opening round of the World Cup in South Africa the weekend before last. But judging by his ride on Sunday he has made a full recovery in time for the beginning of this year’s iDMS.

Dan Sheridan (Nukeproof) had performed well in South Africa, qualifying for the final for the first time in a World Cup. However, he had to be content with fifth on Saturday, just behind Colin Ross (Intouch).
