Dowling solos home after destroying Rás Kilmallock field

Mark Dowling has won Rás Kilmallock in county Limerick for the second time in three years today; the DID Dunboyne rider soloing home by a massive margin.

The 120-kilometre race saw the winning break go from the start and featuring Sean McKenna (Aquablue),  Stephen Murray (Strata3-VeloRevolution) and Simon Ryan (Mego Racing Team).

Dowling missed the move initially but managed to make it across. Ryan would become distanced from the four but he still rode well to hang on for fourth.

Dowling jumped clear of McKenna with approximately two of the five laps remaining.

And the reigning national crit champion managed to pull out a gap of about five minutes come the finish, despite there being a very strong field.

McKenna came across the line alone after dropping Murray, and the latter was also on his own coming in to round out the podium.

The A3 race was won by national junior time trial bronze medallist Cathal Purcell of Carrick Wheelers.

The emerging teenager was one of the animators of last weekend's Wexford Two Day where he took the yellow jersey into the final stage but had to be content with 3rd overall in the end.

On Sunday in Limerick he outsprinted Shane Foley (Carlow RC) and Michael Healy (iBike) at the end of their four-lap, 100 kilometre affair.

Meanwhile, in the combined A4, women's and vets' event, Seamus Hayden of De Ronde Von Cork was first across the line.
