Mark Dowling wins Seamus Kennedy Memorial

Having hit form in recent weeks after a difficult start to the 2018 campaign, Mark Dowling has taken another victory.

He emerged on top in the two-up sprint that settled the Seamus Kennedy Memorial promoted by Dunboyne Cycling Club on Sunday.

Dowling had pulled clear with James Davenport; the Strata 3-VeloRevolution rider who has already taken two wins this year.

However, while Davenport is having his best season to date, Dowling got the better of him at the finish today.

Dermot Trulock, who was a winner 24 hours earlier at the Shannonside GP, rounded out the podium. The Lucan CRC man was about 30 seconds back on the day.

And just seconds behind Trulock came three riders to file placings 4th to 6th. Conor Murnane (UCD-Fitzcycles.ie) led in James Maddock (Slaney Cycling Club) and Liam Curley (NRPT-Chill Insurance).

Dowling (Unattached) has come good late into the season after something of a disastrous winter and early campaign due to illness.

However, he won the recent Eddie Tobin Memorial and was 2nd in the Ballivor GP before today's victory.

In the women's race at the Seamus Kennedy, the contest threw up an interesting result in that an U16 rider triumphed.

Teenager Caoimhe O'Brien (Lakeside Wheelers) was best ahead of former elite Irish road race champion Melanie Spath (Arcane CT). Sinead Molloy (Tullamore CTC) claimed the final podium slot.
