Doherty opens Ireland's Youth Olympics with top 10 in Slovakia | Video

Áine Doherty has taken a very strong result for Ireland at the European Youth Olympic Festival in Slovakia

Áine Doherty has opened the Irish team's campaign at the European Youth Olympics with a top 10 in the girls TT in Banska Bystrica, Slovakia, this morning.

Doherty, who competes at home with the VC Glendale club from Belfast, placed 10th in the 8.4km test, which was won by Cat Ferguson of Great Britain in a time of 12mins 11.58secs.

Paula Jessica Ostiz Taco of Spain took the silver medal at 3.59 seconds while Anna Gaborska of Poland won bronze at 7.52 seconds.

Doherty was 10th, at 29.12 seconds, while Mya Doocey of Ireland, who competes for Navan RC, placed 31st at 57.53 and Aliyah Rafferty, who rides for Island Wheelers, was 60th at 1:24.78.
