
Dillon Corkery has taken the best result of his career at Grand Prix de Denain (1.Pro) after the making the breakaway, riding against many of the biggest World Tour teams in the sport.
The St Michel-Preference Home-Auber 93, who has turned himself into a serious proposition after years if development in France, was among an eight-rider group that fought to stay clear after 193km of racing, including over cobble sections.
The Irishman put in a dig inside the final 1km, as the bunch was breathing down their necks; getting into a late chicane in the lead but not managing to shake off those he was witth.
And though the podium was an all World Tour line-up - Matthew Brennan (Visma | Lease a Bike) from Gianni Vermeersch (Alpecin - Deceuninck) and Dries De Bondt (Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale) - Corkery was in the thick of it for a the day.
In the end he placed 6th; a career best result at this level for the Rás Tailteann winner from two years ago.
